Larry, There is only one 'CHNG' line also…the system has to figure out which disk was removed…and thus toggle the select lines to see which one has a disk, and which doesn't (without stepping). It then has to step the disk to see if a new disk has been inserted…and also to re-set the CHNG line. It would seem to me just as easy to monitor the write select line while toggling the select line (without stepping) to look for the change in the drive write protect status. Once a change was detected, they could then step the drive to insure that a disk was in fact put in, and then step the disk to re-set the CHNG line. Now…the circuitry to do all this is beyond my capabilities, but it doesn't seem to be real difficult on the surface. Don
