Well, speaking for myself I oppose its inclusion in Workbench for the
reasons mentioned in previous messages here (others may and probably do
have different reasons–there is much not to like about ARP other than its
ridiculous name).
Basically, arp.library is a mish-mash of totally unrelated functions,
thrown together in the true hacker spirit of "it sounds neat so lets incl
for weekend programming or PD/Shareware stuff, but it does NOT belong in an
official system software release. If AmigaDOS could stand to have some of
these functions in it then Commodore should enhance AmigaDOS, if Intuition
could benefit from some new routines then put them there. But don't take
all these enhancements from different areas of the Amiga and put them in
the same place! This only contributes to the Amiga's perceived image of a
hacker's delight that is useless for serious use.
If the Amiga is going to have a professional image, Commodore is going to
have to get its act together in the area of serious R& D in system
software development. I don't see this happenning (was there any direction
in WB 1.3? Seems more a collection of this person's hack with that person's
pet program). I hope that 1.4 will be different (and from what I know of
the new Workbench things will be better). Only time will tell.
