Sorry about you're losing your directory. I did that once myself and it was a
real bummer! Fortunately it was my System drawer and I just restored it. Since
then, I've been very careful about how I delete things from the HD. I now put
things into the trashcan first and empty the trash from the WB menu. It's a lot
safer. 8)
