Jackie – If your computer and printer communicate through a serial interface (as opposed to parallel or "standard Centronics port) then you would use PSDOWN to download fonts. If you did purchase an Adobe Typeface package from this person, you should have the user's manual which explains printer communication settings in detail. What additional typeface packages did you purchase from him? Maybe the fonts he spoke of are those that came resident in your printer and if that is the case they are resident in ROM so there is no need to download them. If you did purchase an Adobe Type Library package from him and he had previously registered the software, you will want to change the registration over to yourself – to do this you must BOTH send a letter to Adobe stating the change, that you have received said sofware and documentation, and that he has relinquished all copies of said software to you. The PSDOWN program is also available in the Libraries here and it is possible that if a user did not have any fonts, he might still have use for the downloader. You can use it to download PostScript language programs, select serial communications ports and modify communications parameters, print a directory of fonts available on your printer and restart your printer to clear its VM of unnecessary fonts and other files.
