Do you need to write to the laser disk or just read only? I have used one o each type with a lot of success. For read only, try the Sony Lasermax LDP 2000 the quality is good and you can get a used one pretty cheap. If you need to record frames also, try the Panasonic TQ-2026F it is a worm video disk player on which you can record 24,000 frames of video and the quality is very good. It is much more expensive but ther features are great. Both machines are controlled via the RS232 port and you can write a program to control all the functions very easily. I wrote our controller in C but it could just as easily be written in basic.
