I'm compulsive about backups. I hate losing data that way. One little slip or inattentive moment, and megabytes can be lost. And that's only the things under your own control – add theft, fire, rain, broken toilet bowls, who knows what. If for no other reason, a backup is a convenient way to return to a previous version of some code. I backup my current project (that is, that subdirectory's code and data) every hour at least, if not more frequently than that. I rotate a complete set between office and home, and when I travel, Ileave one in a safe place. It's cheap insurance.
