Bill,
The decree about ADA went something like this: If you're a software
developer for DOD and you want a contract, you must write in ADA. Now, the
kinds of things that they are talking about are mostly for weapons systems.
My understanding is that the control software in modern aircraft is ADA
based.
(I was Regular Army from May 1982 to November 1989. Got out as a Captain
of Field Artillery to come to school here at ol' Purdue. Entered the
Reserves as a part-time job. Was activated in support of Desert
Shield/Storm. So my understanding of what they do in the Air Force is
naturally quite limited. ADA was however used in AFATADS, a state of the
art, field artillery computer fire control/coordination system for Corps
and echelons below).
