When I can buy a 33MHZ 80386 for the cost of an A3000, I am obviously not getting twice the value. I have been a supporter of the Amiga technology since its birth. I thought that the operating system and hardware were revolutionary for their time. However, times have changed. A PC compatible with a 33MHZ 386/387, a graphics coprocessor board (ATI Ultra $499), and IDE hard drive outperforms the Amiga 3000 in virtually every category for a comparable cost. The video card provides for resolutions up to 1024X768 and 256 colors displayed at once. The graphics under Microsoft Windows 3.0 are FASTER than the Amiga (I have a benchmark measuring line draw speed.). Commodore hasn't even provided a device independent graphics library making virtually all video board upgrades USELESS to everyday applications. I find it quite amusing that a computer that touts expandability as a strong point can't even support the advancing technology of video hardware. Hey isn't video a strong point for the Amiga??? How about a high density floppy drive?? While Commodore has expanded the Amiga line, they have yet to decouple the coprocessor chipset from being the system bottle neck. Though I hate to say it, I think the Amiga is dying. I am finding it harder and harder to justify buying an Amiga. Just what does the Amiga do that can't be done by a PC????? Tim
