Yes and no. Sorry, but TRexx is the domain of paleontologists, not
archaeologists. Several archaeologists, however, have created 3-D renderings
of their data and even walkthroughs of sites. Some researchers in England in
conjunction with the IBM technology center there have recreated the Roman Baths
for BBC specials and films for on-site demonstrations. One researcher use 3-D
modeling to piece together and ancient fortress in the South Pacific – a task
that could have taken years to accomplish with raw data took much less because
he could "see" the pieces he had to fit together, not just have to make the
numbers match. Alot of exciting possibilities exist, but the potential is
vastly underappreciated by many archaeologists. Projects like the Virtual
Reality walkthrough of a long-gone cathedral in France, however, prove that
there is great potential.
