I am willing to wager that Commodore is not working on a non-amiga compatible workstation. If you think about this at all you will realize how crazy that statement is. Jeff Stiley, the Vice President of Commodore Business Machines spent a great deal of time telling me about the recession. Explaining that the layoffs were necessary to insure the profitability of Commodore International. Do you really believe that Commodore would produce a non-compatible workstation today? In todays climate of MS/DOS dominance? Not likely in my opinion. A new CDTV? Maybe. A new lower-end A500 box maybe? A higher-end Amiga 4000 possibly. New machine with a new OS? Forget it. I might also mention that the people on the various nets keep a close watch on the job positions advertised at Commodore. To date, I have not seen a influx of engineers being hired. Even if it were true, a new machine that would be designed from the ground up would take several years to get out the door. I suspect if they are doing anything at all, it would be toward the building of a higher-end CDTV, one that has the same (or better than) technology that CD-I offers. A bit of a pick at Kevin… tick toc goes the clock. It is now October 12, 1991. So far, no CD-I machines are available at any retail establishment in my area.
