Dear All,
I'm very new to Desktop Video, in fact I have not yet started. I have followed
this forum the last 2 weeks. I live in Sweden. My intrest i Desktop video
started 1 year ago when I bought an Sony Hi8 Camcorder (TR808). I have
backgound in 16mm Film editing when you edit both picture and audio in 16mm
tape. I have also worked in the professional audio area with define/install and
service recording-, video-, radio and tv-studios, theaters and cinema. Today I
am IS Manager for the Nordic countries (Sweden, Denmark, Finland and Norway) at
Tektronix.
When I bought the Hi8 I found that the possibilities of audio editing were/is
very limited when looking in the cunsumer area. When I worked with audio I
could here 1-2 frames of out of sync between audio and video, today about 3-4.
I.e. I can not accept anything less than 0. Now when I don't have the
possibilties of edit in 16mm anymore I only have video to use for home
purposes. I need to be able to add sound effects, music, speaker etc in sync
and mix all this together in stereo.
On monday next week I will get the miroVideo DC1 tv demostrated for me which I
really consider to buy to do nonlinear editing of my home video. I film in Hi8
and I expect to get VHS quality back after editing. The current technology in
the miro price range is not what I want in the future but I think it is a very
good entry point to this technology. When better equipment is available at a
reasonable price I can upgrade and reedit my videos. My current hardware is the
following:
486DX2/66
16 Mb RAM
SoundBlaster 16 ASP with Waveblaster, MIDI and CD-ROM
250 Mb IDE used only for DOS/Windows and hardware related s/w
DC2000 (250 Mb) Tape station
Buslogic Fast SCSI2-adapter
2 x 1 Gb Imprimis SCSI-1 Harddisk. One will be dedicated for A/V data
Exabyte 8200 SCSI Tape station (2 Gb). Not yet Used
(The Imprimis HD and Exabyte have I recently bought as used equipment)
I will follow this forum with intrest and I will try to share my knowledge and
