Daniel,
One thing that may be possible is to work in 320 x 200 with double the
number of "frames" to create "fields". Then using some sort of
composition functions, you would have to compose the even and odd fields
together. I am kindof in a rush right now so I can't play with it but
hopefully something along these lines will work. Let me know if you get
anywhere or not.
