They justified it because the NeXt has a top-notch image. The Amiga has a
basement image. Not even a bargain-basement image, unfortunately, unless
you're seriously into video.
They justified it because the perpitrator of the NeXt has a solid
reputation for marketing and success. CBM has neither of these, quite the
reverse.
There may be other reasons, but these seem like th obvious candidates to
me.
