Ahhh, Keith, the decision of mainframes versus desktop workstations is a
*business* decision, not a *personal* one. It's quite the opposite with
stereo-like components…
Then, again, though, you're making my point for me. For a commodity
computer like CDTV to "integrate" with the home market (to handle climate
control, security, communications, etc.), it will need to learn about the
environment it is working in. That takes persistent memory and the more of
it, the better. Affordable CD-*RAM* will open up a lot of possibilities
for the home market, but the current CD-*ROM* systems will amount to no
more than entertainment/education systems and that will dissapate into
fad-dom. Perhaps they'll survive long enough to garner interest in
correcting that, but the economy is not in great shape right now.
