Barry,
I'm not an employee of Soft-Logik, but I must come forth to
disqualify your comments regarding PageStream 2.1. Granted the program has
a few odd quirks, but I have yet to come across any of the ones that you
mention. And just for the record, I use PageStream to do professional work!
Are you printing to Postscript? If so, log onto Soft-Logik's BBS
and get the most recent version of the Postscript driver; the one that
comes with 2.1 is buggy and won't print most of the Adobe Type 1 fonts. It
gave me some frustration in my first month of ownership, but luckily they
fixed it quickly.
I'll agree that PageStream has much room for improvement, but it is
heads and tails above ProPage. Case in point: how long did it take ProPage
to be able to rotate type and graphics? How long WILL it be before you can
edit ProDraw clips inside ProPage? How long has it taken Gold Disk to work
the offset printing bug out of laser and deskjet printing? Or to do
landscape in any mode but Postscript?
These and many other points are the reasons I defected to
PageStream, and I certainly don't feel cheated. I someday hope for better
screen display of graphics and some sort of dithered coloring scheme like
ProPage, but until then, I'll forward my comments to Soft-Logik and hope
for the best. They DO listen.
