I am in the process of shopping for an Multi-Media upgrade kit. I have a Micro-Express 486-33 with 8Megs Ram and a 170 MB HD. Unfortunately, I purchased a mini-tower, which does not have a full size drive bay available for an internal CD-ROM. Three things I'm looking for are a fast drive, along the lines of the NEC CDR74/84, a 16 bit sound card, and a nice assortment of software packaged. It appeared that the Media Vision upgrade kit fit the bill perfectly, until I realized that it uses an internal drive. I called Media vision, and they have no plans to put together an external drive, because it would compete with their other product, which uses a slower drive. All they could suggest was to buy the drive and the sound card seperately, but of course then there is now packaged software. Any ideas out there? Is there any way to use an internal drive externally, with some sort of case? How important is the 16 bit sound card now? Tommorrow? My underlying philosophy is that I want to get as much as I can afford to now, so as to avoid having to upgrade various components 6 months or a year from now. Are there any vendors out there who will combine components, including software, at competitive prices? An awful lot of questions, I know? I would certainly appreciate any thoughts on the matter…Dick…
