Cheaper Net?'
On a somewhat related note a local company has set up a similar system to
this on broadcast TV. You need a special card to receive the data and of
course the card is only for IBM PC's but it works just fine with the
bridgeboard. If the only IBM application you want to run is this one, as
was my case, all you need is the XT bridgeboard which I brought new from a
local dealer for $100. So you can run it in your Amiga for only $100 more
than on an IBM.
The actual service has no subscription fee, you just hook up a video
signal to the card, (Cable TV, Antenna or composite video), and your off
and running. The service offers news, continuous stock feeds, TV listings,
air fares etc. Downloads are supposed to be coming soon. It's in it's
early days but keeps getting better. If successful it will expand to other
markets. Currently there are only 2 TV stations carrying the service,
KICU-TV36 here in the SF Bay Area and a station in LA. The card and
software package is about $200.
