Safer? Well, maybe some ways. I wear the safety glasses because steel on steel is risky, re splinters. But for my hands, the rock pick is *far* better than a chisel… when you've been pounding boulders, after a while your accuracy begins to suffer. You can miss. When I miss the rock hammer, my supporting hand is a foot or so to the side, safely out of harms way (and a sledge can do a darn lot of harm to your hand!). With a chisel, I gotta hold that sucker – for a guy who plays guitar, works on a keyboard, draws, etc., the threat is huge. I'll use the hammer. If I break it, I get another. 🙂 Ben
