I jumped into this thread kinda late and don't know if anything like this has been discussed but … I'm having _big_ problems getting my CDR-74 working with my 1542. I'm using both OS/2 (AHA152X.ADD and CDROM.SYS drivers) and DOS (ASPI4DOS.SYS and ASW410 CDROM kit from Adaptec) and essentially the problem is the same in both environments. I just purchased both card and drive and there's no other devices on the SCSI bus. Problem: When I try to access the CDROM drive the busy light on the drive goes on, the disk spins, and after about 1 minute I get "CDR101-Drive not ready". The disk continues to spin several minutes after this. I've tried all the troubleshooting suggestions in the NEC manual and a wide variety of jumper settings and switch settings on both the card and drive all with essentially the same results. The software drivers seem to load just fine and recognize that the drive is "NEC". I'm beggining to think the problem is either a) bad drive or b) bad cable. I had to purchase a cable with a 50pin SCSI connector at both ends separately because the CDR-74 came with a cable that had the 50pin connector at only 1 end (the other end would not fit the 1542). Is there a difference in 50pin SCSI cables that I'm not aware of? Any help would be appreciated. My system: 486-33 ET4000 Local Bus AMI Bios 2 IDE drives 16M RAM Thanks,
