In fact, some archaeologists seem to think this is exactly what happened in the region of ancient Sumeria circa about six thousand years ago. There's geological evidence of a massive flood in that area at that time. We also have a copy of a Sumerian flood legend that dates back at least four thousand years, and seems to be the ancestor of the Genesis flood account. Jon W.
