Just got a benchmark on CD ROM that includes, among other things, a thruput
test that will tell you what the sustained data transfer rate is. It's the
only one that I have run across so far that seems to be accurate. I have
run it on a number of drives and it has always come back with the results
expected based on the manufactures specs.
