I'm up and running. Unfortunately, the RS422/423 card that I got was slightly
used and very cheap and I didn't have much recourse with the vendor. I found a
place where I could buy a used serial card for 2 bucks. I took the crystal
from it and put it on my 422 card along with a 7404 for 65 cents and low and
behold everything works. All the voltages out of the UVW-1800 measure to the
RS-423 spec so I wired the cable to that and all seems well. Now all I have to
do is sort out all of the quirks of the Sony BetaCam protocols.
