Mike, I can't give you many numbers, but I can assure you that the AMAX is a good investment if you need to use a Mac, but don't require color. I had an AMAX cartridge (plugs into your floppy port, and you need to use an external MAC floppy drive to read/write Mac formatted disks) for years, but upgraded to the AMAXII+ internal card when it came out. Sold my external cartridge, ROMs, and floppy drive for about $300 (but they got a deal). In theory, it emulates a Mac PLUS, but if you are talking speed, that depends on what you've got under the hood. A stock A2000 (68000-7Mhz) ~= Mac Classic, A3000 (68030-25Mhz) ~= Mac IIci, 4000/040accel. (68040-28-33Mhz) ~= Quadra 700-900. This is of course when comparing CPU speed only. Since the AMAX is a B/W interface, I find screen updates are MUCH faster than on a IIci in 8-bit color mode – BUT you don't get color. I regularly use PhotoShop, and have had no problems with other applications – from Microsoft apps down to some of the buggiest freeware available for the Mac. The ONLY application I have compatibility problems with is AppleTalk Remote Access – An Apple Product! With the latest version of the AMAX software I can now transfer 1MB and larger images from my Amiga HD to the Mac HD within seconds! Try transferring 20MB over a serial modem connection, and you'd know why I think this is so useful! Anyway, suffice it to say that I think it is QUITE useful AND compatible. BTW, it works fine in my A3000, even with a Toaster card installed. Keep On Toastin' Erik Flom
