INSTALL.LHA is still packed. Any file that you get off of the Amiga forums
here will be compressed/packed. You can tell by the extension (ie the word
right after the '.' in the programs name. If it is '.LHA' or '.LZH' then the
file is still in it's compressed form). You will need to uncompress the
INSTALL.LHA file. The easiest way is to move the INSTALL.LHA file into a
drawer or area that you are familiar with (you can put it anywhere you like but
for ease of explaining lets say you put it into the same drawer where you have
Autopilot which we will say is on your WORK: partition/drawer).
1. To unpack INSTALL.LHA file that you have in your Autopilot drawer, you first
need to go into shell.
2. When in Shell, type CD WORK:Autopilot (remember this is just an example. If
your Autopilot drawer is in your Workbench partition/drawer change the word
'WORK:' to the _exact_ name that your partition/drawer is called).
3. The prompt should then change to read 'WORK:Autopilot>' (or whatever. See
above). Type 'LHA x INSTALL.LHA'. This will open a window which will show the
files being extracted. They will be extracted into the same drawer where the
INSTALL.LHA file was placed.
4. After the operation is complete (ie the files have finished being
extracted), you will need to move the 'Installer' program to a place that the
operating system will have continuous and easy access. This is usually your C:
drawer (this C: drawer holds all the important system commands). To do this
type in shell 'copy installer c:'. After a little disk activity the installer
program should now be in your c: drawer as well as in your Autopilot drawer.
To save on disk space you may want to delete the one in the Autopilot drawer
but we will worry about that at a later date <g>.
5. From the info you have given me you may be better off to install/decompress
the Autopilot program into your WORK: partition/drawer. It has more space than
your Workbench: area (and you will need that space as you need a minimum of 5MB
– forum messages can start eating disk space at a horrendous pace <g>).
6. With the installer program in your C: drawer you now should be able to click
on the 'Install Autopilot' icon that has been decompressed and follow the
instructions. As a further bit of advice, when installer asks you what level
of control you want over the installation, choose the beginner level (it will
not ask you as many questions).
