I just bought my first CD-ROM drive, a NEC CDR-74, which one of the gurus on this forum seems to expect will be lowered in price after the Winter Comdex. Doesn't it gall you? It does me. I know enough about the technology to know there's little, if anything that anyone is liable to introduce, besides compatibility with the new Kodak photo conversion to disk process that is capable of being a competitive advantage. I'd like to believe that current high end drives will be upgradeable through ROM replacement, but who knows (perhaps the guru, who answered the question elsewhere)? I feel I have already discovered a paucity of access to whatever titles may be out there. In fact, I haven't yet discovered a source of titles, never mind access. Mac-compatible disks are presumably scarce, given the disparity of market share of platforms, and, as someone else on this forum observed, there are apparently only 4% of the installed Mac base with CD-ROM drives. My uses will be mainly DTP oriented. For example, I ordered Adobe Type-On-Call with the drive and I do know there are a number of CD-ROM "clip-art" services out there. Some of the Stock Photo libraries I use from time to time have parts of their catalogs available on CD-ROM (I believe even NEC offered a photo gallery at one time–I don't know yet if they still do.
