Not to discourage you, but had a similar experience beta tesing the Trantor
upgrade to the Laser Library (designed for users that want to keep their
existing controller). This upgrade is supposed to enable a pre-fetch
buffer that brings the LL up to MPC specs. It is apparently already built
into the MV/Sony board. In my case, I was trying to get this thing working
in concert with a separate MV PAS-16 board.
After hours of frustration, it became pretty apparent that the PAS-16 and
upgraded Sony controller did not want to coexist. It's acting like there
are DMA channel conflicts (however, it tried every combination possible to
avoid this). I'm certain that Trantor is busily working to get this going,
but I have to wonder whether the problem you've encountered is not the same
thing that I've seen.
At any rate, I threw my hands in the air, sold off the Laser Library and
purchased a Texel drive to work with the SCSI interface on my PAS-16.
Works like a charm. For the sake of the thousands of LL users out there, I
hope Sony, Trantor, and MV can collectively get their act together. I
sense an armed rebellion in the making.
