CD-ROM under Windows
Anyone got any ideas why my Windows 3.1 under DOS 5.0 can't read CD-ROM's?
I tried clean booting from a minimal AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS. DOS
outside of Windows and DOS boxes from within Windows can read the CD-ROM's
fine (DIR and COPY files), but File Manager is unable to select the drive,
claiming that there is no disk in it (it spins up the drive, however, and
flickers the busy light). I've tried several different CD-ROM's. I am
using MSCDEX 2.21 with the latest (1.50A) driver for my Mitsumi. I have
tried both Standard and 386Enh modes. FileMan recognizes that the drive
exists, because it displays a drive icon with the CD-ROM symbol. I've got
the MCI CD Audio driver installed in Windows, for what's its worth, and I
can run CD audio player utilities in Windows to access the drive from an
audio standpoint. In short, everything appears in order, and everything
except data access from Windows apps works.
