Yeah, I just found out about the jumper.
I moved the jumper on the mother board (J351 – middle of the motherboard,
to the left of the expansion bus connector) from the NO DF1 position, to
the DF1 position.
Now 'info' shows df0: & df1: as 'unreadable disk's – regardless of the
position of the Drive Select jumpers. I get the same message when 0, 1, or
2 floppies are connected – seemingly regardless of which is connected.
Question: Does it make a difference which connector the 2nd drive is
hooked up to?
Currently, I have the new HD floppy in the left drive bay, connected to
the first (middle) connector on the cable. Drive Select is set to DS0.
The old Lo-D floppy is in the right bay, hooked up to the end connector on
the cable (the one AFTER the twist in lines 4-6 on the cable). I have
tried setting the Lo-D floppy to both DS0 & DS1 – neither seemed to help.
What is the twist in the cable doing? On IBMs, the twist means that both
floppies get set to DS0, and the twist changes the ID of the drive so the
controller thinks it is something besides DS0.
Thanks for your help,
Erik Flom
