The Metaware compiler is just that, a compiler. In order to generate an .EXP file (or IXP/PXP/AXP/SXP) you will need a linker that comes with the PharLap SDK. If you call MetaWare they sell both as a bundle for around $900. The PharLap SDK includes not only the Linker but an excelent assembler, and an excelent source level debuger (both a must for any serious work). What it doesn't include is a "distributable" DOS extender which you don't need as one is found already within 3DS. That's the big chunk of money. They are now charging $2,000 for the first 1000 copies and $10 bucks a copy thereafter. It does include, however, a limited version of the DOS extender. This runtime code is the same one found in 3DS but you cannot bind it to your executable nor give it away (not even to Jonh Doe downstair in accounting). As far as Watcom goes, even though it includes its own linker, it doesn't have a debuger (well, technically it does but it can't debug IPAS). You would need to get the PharLap SDK anyway.
