I can easily understand the time savings involved in purchasing
pre-modelled meshes but I'm also a poor architect so anything free
fits nicely into my budget. This is why I thought swapping meshes of
common elements (ie. people, furniture, trees, equipment) would be a
common practice. None of these common elements are going to win my
firm a commission, the architecture will. (I hope! :-])

You probably know this but I only came across this a few weeks ago.
Steelcase, one of this country's largest furniture manufacturers,
packages up and sends out their product line on 19 diskettes which
includes a software tie-in to autocadd. The furniture items are
available in 2d and 3d and number approximately 1600! That's not bad
for free! I'm currently tracking down other furniture manufacturers
to see if similar software is available. If you or anyone else knows
of a good source please let me know.
I know of one CD-ROM developer who is contatcting these same companies
to try to include these meshes on his CD. Pack enough goodies onto
the disk, put together a nice visual table of contents, keep the
price down to almost free and we architects would go for that.
