The chances of things turning around are better if you don't darken
the clouds though, as I guess you agree.
Of all of the things you mentioned — was it your intention to
purchase all of this stuff? If Commodore were today to have an A5000
w/DSP & RTG, SCSI-2 and memory protection would you drop cold hard
cash for it? If so, how much would you be willing to pay?
It might be worth your while to volinteer to answer the phones for a
day at your local Amiga dealer. You'll find that the majority of
users concerns are not those that you have expressed here, but rather
the lack of Falcon 3.0 or Aces of the Pacific for the Amiga.
I am with you in that I would like these things worked on. I want
this stuff too, and would be willing to buy it, after all it is the
technology of the Amiga that attracts me to the platform to begin
with. But I admit that to deliver that kind of technology that you
described would put the machine probably out of my reach and if I had
the cash, I would have to pick between the mythical A5000 and an Indy
from SGI. My choice probably would be Indy.
Commodore is doing right in my opinion in concentrating on the
low-end right now. CD32 has some excellent commercial applications
that many will realize shortly. I think you may find that the
development effort put into that box will ultimately benefit us all.
This is of course assuming that Commodore can sell these machines in
Europe.
What will sell these machines will be titles. If CD32 can get the
titles, Commodore lives. If not, well who knows.
I do know this. As long as I can get product my future is secure for
the next year easily. Amiga sales have been good lately, and frankly
I see no reason why that should change.
As far as the SuperBuster is concenred, let Commodore get to the
point they can meet current demands for the A4000. Once that is
done, parts will become available. It is a matter of cash right now
that is all. They understand they need to support their customers,
but they simply can't afford to do that and produce new machines to
meet the orders that are on their plates. They need to sell every
box they can right now.
So, I do have sympathy with your problems with the superbuster, but I
also happen to know that our relationship with Commodore was good and
they will perform. Give 'em time.
By the way, I hear the power up software is shipping again.
