I have been working with NT since July '92. As a beta tester, I have
gotten to know NT pretty well. It is truly the finest operating
system I have ever had the good fortune to work with. (16 years
IBM/DEC Mainframe, IBM Mini's and many types of PCs (TRS-80, Apple
][, Xerox CPM, IBM PC, Amiga…)
It is about time the PC market generated a REAL operating system. I
have found that only those who do not understand the layered nature
of NT and it's use of sub-systems for operating system shells find
much bad to say about NT. NT is really a whole different animal than
any other PC operating system. The hardware abstraction layer alone
merits much applause and allows for muli-platform compatibility. If
you have a favorite OS, and it is a real market player, then you will
most likely see a version of it availible running under NT. You can
think of NT as the operating system that knows how to run operating
systems.
Ok, so it's clear I like NT and see a bright future for it. Hope I
have not just become the pilot light that starts the flame
burning….Flame off.
