Thanks for all the info, Ron. But I think it's the Amiga that's "primitive" – and they know it. The spin-up problem is mentioned in the A4000 manual so they know it exists. If the Amiga is so "sophisticated" that it can boot faster than the installed drives, they should have been "sophisticated" enough to provide an adjustment mechanism. I can't comment on the Amiga's implementation of the IDE protocol because Commodore hasn't provided a lick of information on their implementation in their manual. Another nice "sophisticated" touch. Even the cheap Asian IDE controllers provide you that data. Seagate 120Meg drives cold-boot just fine. The larger capacity Seagate 3390's and the Maxtor 540's won't. I don't think it's a matter of priority, but I'll check that again. I think you're very fortunate to have had a dealer who gave you the information on which drives were "recommended". I, of course, being a boor think Commodore should make the information publicly available in its manual. But obviously such thoughts are probably too unsophisticated for Commodore to entertain. <G> Overall, I don't think – as some do – that the Amiga is the "best kept secret" in the computer universe. In fact, I think it's obscurity is well-earned.
