According to the docs that come with the Newton (the Sharp PI-7000 version that I got) the Newton is best if used by only one person as it learns that persons writing style. I've had my Newton a couple of days now, and have been playing with it most of that time <g> and it's gotten pretty good at recognising my handwriting, but if somebody else tries to write on it, all is lost, it usually doesn't recognise anyone else's writing. Keeping this in mind, passing around one at parties, or writing on one in a store isn't a good way to test it's text recognition abilities. I like the Newton, although I'm not about to pay an additional $300.00 for the Apple name, and that is the difference between the Sharp Newton, and the Apple Newton on the street. (Not to mention that the Sharp version includes a builtin cover for the writing surface, with the Apple you have to buy an extra cost case for the whole machine)
