I'll throw in my .02 here. I think the main point most of these folks
are trying to say (or are saying in not so many words) is that you
shouldn't jump into a forum and put down the very machine the forum
is for. If you're having problems with an Amiga, this is the place to
ask for help. It's NOT the place to put down a perfectly good
machine just because you're having trouble. If I went to a Mac or PC
forum, and started puting down those respective machines because I
couldn't get one to work properly would be stupid, and the same goes
here.
I have an Amiga 3000 that has onboard SCSI, and is EASY to hook
additional drives to, so I can't tell you how to fix the problem that
you're having other than to perhaps suggest forgetting the builtin
IDE interface in your machine, and getting an A4091 (or other SCSI
adapter), and getting a SCSI drive for your Amiga. If you do go SCSI
one of the things it'll do for you is speedup your machine. The Amiga
is a fully multitasking machine, although with the IDE interface it
has to stop multitasking for each disk access, and that slows down
the machine, SCSI can fully multitask, so the machine can run at full
speed all the time.
I don't think you'll find many people even here that will argue with
you that the Amiga implementation of IDE is horrible, SCSI is really
the way to go! (Imagine what a Mac would be like with an IDE drive!)
