Brendan, Sounds like you some real fun work! I know that type of production environment; things need to be done fast and right. Down and dirty as they say, but it takes real skill to make it work. The feedback I got on RP when it was being tested was very similar to your experience. Very fast in a production environment, and you've more than substantiated comments that I've heard personally. I thank you for that as for awhile it looked as though RP was getting a bum rap. I'm particularly impressed because with Music Videos especially, video follows audio, which means that RP has to be able to accomodate that style of editing. It seems to be flexible enough to accomodate either approach. Something that the Matrox Studio was not set up to do. (VFA) And when you compare the price with anything in its class, its a remarkable buy as compared to say an Avid or a Max even which isn't really set up do this sort of thing at present because of the lack of an interface. Not that they're exactly in the same league but… Your point about it being young technology is a good one. Inconviences are to be expected, but the fact that the people involved are committed to making it right and that's what counts. Too frequently with a product which has little competition, (at least at this point) you feel you just have to work around the problems and there's not much you can do about it. I'm an ex-editor and I guess once you have it in your blood you never really lose it. So while I'm not directly involved, I'm very interested in what is developing. I've actually contacted SoftVTR about the possibility of writing drivers for it to make it a complete NLE system. What they told me was suprising; that basically with the Windows interface and SoftVTR because of the way Windows allows OLE and Dynamic linking etc. you could use their out of the box Windows drivers and set it up to do just that. The PAR is the odd element in the equation because it has only a GPI to activate it but I suppose an adapter could be made from an RS-232 port which would give enough signal to activate it. Then a small interface to incorporate SoftVTR and the PAR and RP thru DLE and you'd be all set, I think. What are your thoughts on this? Thanks, John you would expect otherwise.
