OK y'all the product is called : "TapeDisk" The company and Phone
number are : TapeDisk Corporation – 414-231-3333 Let 'em know I sent
you – it won't do YOU any good, but I bet the developers that if I
posted a message on CI$, loadsa other 3D loonies would be interested.
To answer your questions : I have my Exabyte configured as drive Q:
(it also supports a bunch of other tape drives)…and it's formatted
as a 4.9Gig Dos Drive. I have just grabbed 600 frames (with TGRAB)
and specified Q:\TGA as the destination for the framestores. I
jumped into windows and fired up a Batch processor I wrote for PStyler
and PhotoShop. 20 Hours later, each frame has been processed by a
DIFFUSE GLOW, and resaved out to Q:\NEWTGA. I then wrote each frame
back to tape. As far as DOS is concerned my Exabyte is a genuine
drive.
The only downside is seek-time. Its kinda like a s-l-o-w
CD-WORM!…at worst on my drive it takes up to 1minute to get to the
file (normally 15 secs..but when the drive is 2Mg full, the time
starts to get bigger). Once it gets there, it reads and writes and
high speed. Since I'm not inclined to sit and watch 600 frames get
processed, this seek time is irrelevant. A 5Gig drive (and removable
backup media) is worth it a tiny bit of hassle IMHO. Anyhow..check it
out. Maybe there's another user out there who can throw in his/her
two cents.
