IGES is good for surfaces, but when modelling a complex product, you may have a
number of parts, each one of which has it's own surface.
What if you want to show an "exploding diagram" of the components of a product?
You'd need your model to contain information about several parts.
If you were just using IGES you'd have to export each part, and then redo the
work to bring them into relationship with each other.
It would be better if you could export the whole model, and let 3D studio
figure out surfaces itself.
