#2.04 Upgrade Woes
I was recently given a long-unused A2500. It's essentially brand-new-in-the-box
and has WB 1.3. I ordered a 2.04 upgrade, which came with a chip, some disks,
and a British AmigaDOS 2 reference guide. No docs on installation.
So I popped the case and looked around for the ROM. There it was, tucked-in
under the hard drive, next to the 68000. I popped the old chip, dropped-in the
new one, closed the case, put back the display etc, and booted the machine. It
put me in the monitor. I tried "bu" which gave me a nice big checkbox picture
asking me to boot AmigaDOS 68000, AmigaDOS 68030, or AMIX. The mouse worked and
I clicked all of these in turn. Nada. I tried swapping floppies around, but it
never seemed to pay attention to the floppies in the least. Hitting "i" in the
monitor showed the 2091 and accelerator, but not the ROM rev. I couldn't get
past the monitor, no matter what.
So I put my old ROM back in and now it's a happy 1.3 machine again. Can someone
tell me what I did wrong, or failed to do? Please don't tell me I'll have to
format the hard drive or some durn fool thing like that…
