James, Jump over to the CEVIDEO forum for more accurate info. The RCA DSS system is all digital NOW. The only anticipated change is that they will shortly be switching from mpeg-I to mpeg-II compression. The receivers are already setup for mpeg-2 so that is just something they do at their end. Here are the camparisons I've made: RCA DSS Primestar 18" dish 3' dish Easy to install No way yourself* Can be installed They pour a concrete on the side of your footing and pad on your house or (in my case) property. on a south facing deck Installation Free Installation $300 (Do it myself) $699 buys it Rent it forever Two sat. up already (don't know) Already carry almost (don't know) every cable channel I've heard of Lots of available (don't know) transpomders (most now filled with PPV choices) for expansion Owned by Hughs/RCA Owned by cable companies (blah!) *DSS is so easy to set up that one user has one mounted on a plywood base and uses it in his RV. Ten minutes after setting up camp he is in business! NOTE: My Primestar info is a bit sketchy since almost ALL the talk over in the CEVIDEO forum is about DSS.
