Here's a prologue for that book, excerpted from an article I wrote a few months back for our newsletter: "At first it was the Golden Flower, heralded by all that saw and touched it. Our magicians and miracle workers were themselves charmed by its elegance and power. It was a blessing upon the land. "But then came the night, and darker powers took hold of the gift. They had no love for it, and instead nursed a small parasite within. "And while mankind slept, the malignancy grew. Silently, relentlessly, it festered deep within its innoscent host. The restive voices of the small crowd that knew were subsumed in the soundless vacuum of indifference. Finally, the fell creature emerged. And as its head broke through, rupturing the envelope of silence, there let loose a rushing vibration to the ear of all mankind, worse than a hundred thousand wailing banshees laying on the keys of a hundred thousand fiery pipe organs plummeting into hell!
