Since when do numbers matter in this society? Is not *each individual's* life as important as any other's? I don't care if an idiot kills 30 people, or 1 person. I want the idiot stopped in case the 1, or one of the 30, is me. It's the idiocy, not the weapon. The baseball bat is derived from the club, the *first* weapon, and it's intent was very much to kill. Also, an idiot could kill 30 people with a cap and ball remington pistol, provided he carred spare, charged cylinders (5 of them, to be exact). A cap and ball pistol shoots only slightly slower than an semi-auto pistol. If the 30 people in that crowded store are all armed themselves, the chances of the idiot not being able to kill anyone, let alone all 30 go to infinity, compared to the chances if no-one is armed.
