The test you site involve a 64 bit cpu data buse trying to cram into a 16bit os and photoshop. that is absurd and stupid to think this is fair to compare to an optimized sys7 with 32bit native code. Add to that that the code has not even been compiled to take advantage of the pentium's superscaler architecture, whereas the ppc has. when you give PS a 32 bit os like NT and 32 bit app, and compile it, there is a 65 to 70% speed increase, that is a fact, I have seen it. Run PS -nt on a 100 mhz pentium on NT and then make an evaluation. It is physicaly impossible for Photoshop to run faster on sys7 with a 50 meg picture compared to NT because of the way NT handles memory. It Dynamically changes memory requirements every second, depending on Photoshops needs, and then uses the left over ram as a diskcache, and as photoshop needs more ram, NT accomadates, giving it more memory, reducing the diskcache, and shutting down parts of the OS and other aps that are not immediately needed. SYS 7 does not do that and you have to set the ram amount for cache, PS, and other programs before you launch PS, and then it is fixed, until you need to change it, which you then have to close it down and reconfigure. NT has the most advanced memory manager in the world, and like al of the cpu calls, and memory calls, and disk calls, they are continualy managed and changed for optimal performance. Nt also has a 64 bit disk subsystem for incredible speed to disk. Please don't base your opinion or what someone told you on the Pentium and NT. They are simply the fastest combination for not only photoshop but for many apps as well. If you and your firm still have doubts, and are dissappointed about your pentium systems performance, then you are running a poorly configured and equipped pentium machine on DOS AND WINDOWS. With os2 smp, you can launch 2 copies of phtotshop, perform 2 different tasks in each in the background, and download something from cserve, all at the same time.
