If the need is for animated texture maps, 320×200 may be a fine
resolution, if the objects they are applied to stay small on screen. I
achieved a nice rotoscoped TV set in a living room by importing a music video
(Keith Richards!!!) at 240×180 (I think) at 30fps using Video for Windows to
capture and applying it to the TV screen.
