I've had RAM problems with my 3000, none of them permanent, but they did require me to "fiddle around" with ALL the chips. I hate those zips! I was getting "out of memory" when booting, or booting and getting 0 fast ram available (!), and also just plain crashing. So don't give up. The last time took about three hours of jiggling, put everything back together, crash, taking the backplane board & disk chassis off again, etc. … you know the drill! I left no chip untouched (careful with that static!) and eventually was rewarded.
