Wow, you've got some "hearty" concerns. <G> Now, I'm not involved in the ATC
network, but my interest in education runs just as deep. You see I'm involved
in developing, producing and selling self-paced training aids. Many of your
concerns certainly seem genuine, however the one point you make that I don't
quit understand is your position on standardized curriculum!
Don't you realize that a nationalized system of education/training, such as the
ATC system, must have a basic standard and outline to follow? This is vital!
Without a standard, there is no organization, no cooperation, no consistency in
the education. Now, of course the responsibility is on those who create and
decide what the curriculum entails, to make sure it is of the highest standards
possible, not the lowest common denominator.
If I've misunderstood your message, excuse me. However, you hit a sensitive
nerve when say that it leaves a acid taste in your mouth. What academic
freedom are you referring to? The freedom for every teacher to teach what they
want, how they want, and in what order they want???? That sounds very
dangerous to me!
I agree that communication is the key to solving your concerns and issues, but
open-minded communication is key to reaching an intelligent solution. Simply
speaking from the heart may not be your best approach.
