Steve, Guess I wasn't clear in what I was trying to say. I agree that the Naval Reserve (as well as the Marine Corps Reserve) is a federal force. I wasn't trying to say otherwise. The NY State Naval Militia is neither part of the National Guard or the Naval Reserve. It actually is a militia that is still in existence, though I don't know how active, or what duties they perform. They can be found in the government listings in the phone book, last time I thought to look them up. I was under the impression that a few states have created militias separate from the National Guard, but admit that other than the NY Naval Militia, I can't name any at the moment. Jeff Schweiger
