<<So far, the whole thing has degenerated into an irritating conflict of
communication and a waste of many people's valuable time. If all participants
continue to be indifferent or to resist comming to any agreement, I think it
will be obvious to all that we should go our separate ways.>>
You are right that some of the recent discussion may not be directly helping
the city but it appears that many "citizens" have questions that the charter
failed to answer.
<<But, it has also become obvious that most people don't want to be involved in
a project where there is political infighting going on. I myself have become
angry and combative and have contributed to the chaos and most assuredly have
driven away many who don't want to fight for the right to participate in the
Studio City project.>>
This is turning out to more than just a real city but a real city with it's own
political struggle. Next we'll have Save the Hungry and so on? Has someone done
a weather prediction. It would be great to have snow and other weather effects.
<<If other versions get built, I am no longer concerned as of Jan 15, 1995, I
am moving forward with the city map and inviting anyone who can help to do so.
Send messages to me by e-mail if you want to be included in what I am doing.>>
I don't think it is necessary to begin building this in private. Afterall this
is project is not the property of a single person but is everyone's. The
StudioCity forum should remain the place for debate and disussion. The recent
exhanges are simply the democratic process in work. Anyone who hopes to take a
position on the committee should be fully aware of this and able to deal with
such issues. It won't be the easiest job but this "polictical" side of the work
is just as important as creating the models.
<<Finally, the resulting tapes will be for sale, not given away. Tape is not
free and the money collected at Siggraph will go to pay for the costs of
production. That is how it has to be done.>>
But should it? No one is forcing you to make these tapes. While the survey did
suggest that a video tape of the project be done it didn't specifically state
who/when/how this would be done. You seem to think that it "has to be done" and
it is your right to do this. I think that instead of simply doing it, you
should instead ask everyone IF you can do this. Afterall no-one is expecting to
get payed to work on the models and upload them. Only a select few have free
access to the forum but the majority of people will be uploading their models
at their own personal cost. They don't expect to get paid.
If everyone agrees that you should produce the tape, then so be it. But I think
that you should ask everyone beforehand, no?
Survey Question 25:
25. Because anyone can download these files, all who participate in the city
hereby grant permission to the general public to look at, and to enjoy the
city. But, no individual or company may copy any part of the city and sell
it, use any part of the city in a commercial venture, or sell rendered
images of the city, without written permission from applicable
contributors.
Answer: Agree
<<This is comming close to a "Tower of Babel".>>
Hey, why don't we build a "Tower of Babel" in the city?
