Get an _Adaptec_ SCSI controller (if you go SCSI). They are
rock-solid, tested to the most stringent anal-retentive standards,
and don't mess up 3DS. I've got 3 different types (ISA, EISA, PCI)
in my machines and have NEVER had a problem with any, except for a
beta flavor EISA whose old BIOS didn't work with MAX. An updated
BIOS fixed that, however.
For IDE, I've got a Quickpath ISA (faster than my old no-name VLB
one) controller. It was relatively expensive ($120), but has never
given me a lick of trouble.
Moral of the story is: you get what you pay for (hopefully <g>).
