Hi, Greg–
I reasoned like Anne, that marble would be subject to dissolution like
limestone, but hedged my bet because I had seen nothing to confirm this.
They are both CaCO3, mostly, so I figure any difference in weatherability is
likely mechanical. Perhaps marble is large interlocking crystals while
limestone is small grains cemented loosely together by more calcite, so
dissolving the cement would free the grains to roll away with the water?
